This commercial, which I found while YouTube-ing yesterday, has to be about the coolest airline commercial I've ever seen. Ozark Air Lines had just acquired its first DC-9s, and showed off the brand-new N970Z in vintage, swingin' mid-1960s style:
(Here's the URL if the embed doesn't work for you.)
Another Ozark ad I found from the early 1970s. It has one of those cheesy 1970s "feel good" slogans (that, unfortunately, tend to live on in how television stations tell you they're "on your side" and that kind of stuff), but some of the visuals of the DC-9s are pretty spectacular regardless:
(Again, the link if the embed doesn't work. And a word of warning, that "We're big on that!" song will be stuck in your head all day. But it's worth it to see that verrrry low flyover starting at about 21 seconds in. Even as cheesy as some of these can look now, the sentimentalist in me wishes the airlines could still advertise this way...but it's a different world now.)
My first airline flight was on Ozark: STL to BNA, via PAH, ca. 1974 -- I was 9. At that point, the slogan was that Ozark was "the going airline." They did a decent job with this unaccompanied minor.
